On Saturday, February 4th, ten of the undergrad members of the Alpha Upsilon chapter volunteered at a local Gala named, "A Dress the Heart" for the second year in a row. Brothers from Delta Sig were actively involved in welcoming patrons, checking coats, and cleaning up after guests had departed. The Gala's goal was to educate and enhance awareness in the local community about heart disease in women, while raising funds for localized cardiovascular care. The Gala raised more than $60,000 towards hiring a new cardiac surgeon from Harvard Medical School. This is the second year that Delta Sigs have helped ensure the success of this event.
Elementary Olympics
For the past two years Delta Sigma Phi and Kappa Delta have sponsored Elementary Olympics. A philanthropy event at Frank Bergman Elementary School where all K-State Fraternities and Sororities are invited to enter teams to play four-square, tether ball, and tug-of-war in tournament brackets. Proceeds go to Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Manhattan-Ogden Public Schools Foundation. Click on the photo to view pictures from 2006.
Adopt-a-School
Members of Delta Sig are encouraged to volunteer there time to help the local community. One way that we do this is by participation in Adopt-a-School. This program is sponsored by Greek Affairs and members typically volunteer for an hour each week. Volunteers go to a local school and assist teachers in anyway possible. Such activities may include reading a book to the class, distributing snacks, reprimanding bad behavior, or helping with homework assignments.
Fall Ball
Delta Sig's annual softball tournament has recently been moved to the Fall in order to increase participation. The tournament used to take place in the Spring This tournament raises funds through donations from local businesses, entry fees, and t-shirt sells. All money raised from this event is donated to the March of Dimes.
Lighting up the Little Apple
This last December Delta Sig participated in the first annual Light Decorating Contest. Pictures were taken of each house and winners were chosen by the K-State Student body through on-line voting. Though we did not win we had a great time decorating and are looking forward to the next year.
