Q1. How much time does it take to be in the Fraternity?

Like any organization, it all depends on how much time you wish to put into it. For basic purposes, we expect chapter officers to spend 4-8 hours a week with the Fraternity. An average member can expect 2-4 hours a week. This time is spent in chapter meetings, committee meetings, service activities, socials, intramurals, etc.  Members are not expected to be at everything though as we encourage members to be involved in other organizations.

Q2. How big is the chapter?

The K-State chapter of Delta Sig currently has 52 men in the house and about 65 on our roster (some juniors and seniors choose to live in their own houses or apartments). Fall Pledge Class sizes are around 20 men.

Q3. How long is the Pledge Program for Delta Sigma Phi?

Delta Sigma Phi does have a pledging period lasting 8-10 weeks. During this time, you will learn about the history of Delta Sigma Phi, how to run an effective chapter, the duties of the officers and also be shown what it means to be a productive member of the chapter. Our chapter typically does not count Homecoming Week as no New Member Education occurs during that time. During the pledge program there will be weekly Pledge Education meetings as well as meetings periodically to plan a fundraiser and plan for Sneak and Walkout. Sneak is a trip toward the end of the Pledge Program to another Delta Sig Chapter. Walkout is toward the beginning of the Pledge Program where the pledges "steal" dinner and get to know each other somewhere in Manhattan.

Q4. What is Delta Sigma Phi's stance on Hazing?

We do not condone hazing in our undergraduate chapters. As a values based organization, this behavior contradicts our value of integrity and our mission – Better Men. Better Lives. The pledge Committee reviews K-State's Anti-Hazing Guidelines with the pledge class each semester. We believe it is not only the responsibility of a Pledge but also that of an Active Member to report any hazing that  occurs and take this policy very seriously.

Q5. How soon can I get involved?

Each Pledge Class will Elect their own Executive Officers with positions that mirror those of the active chapter. Once initiated members are able to run for positions within the active chapter with the exception of President, Vice President, and SAA for which you must be an Active member for atleast one full semester.

Q6. What is Delta Sigma Phi's alcohol policy?

All of Delta Sigma Phi’s chapters are alcohol free unless the chapter has been granted an Alcohol Free Waiver (AFW). In order to obtain the alcohol free waiver, chapters must meet the designated requirements stated in Delta Sigma Phi’s Responsibility and Accountability (R&A) policy and fill out the necessary forms that need to be set to the Headquarters. The Alpha Upsilon Chapter has been granted a waiver each semester since this policy has been put into place. One of the strongest deciding factors in the waiver is the chapter GPA compared to the All Men's Average. All State and Federal Laws still apply and all social functions follow the Social Responsibility policy as adopted by the K-State IFC.

Q7. Is there a GPA requirement for membership in Delta Sigma Phi?

While Delta Sigma Phi does not require a certain GPA in order to become a member, we look for men that achieve a 2.5 GPA or higher as a returning student and for incoming freshman, we look for men with a high school GPA of a 3.0 or higher. Please speak with our Recruitment Chairman even if your GPA is below these figures.

Q8. Should I sign my residence hall contract?

Students interested in the Greek community are still advised to sign a contract with a residence hall as a safety measure. Contracts with K-State Housing and Dining can be broken up until the week before classes, forfeiting only a $200 fee. Delta Sigma Phi will deduct the $200 from a member’s fall housebill when they decide to live in the chapter. Students wishing to break their contract to join and move in during the Spring Semester should speak with the Recruitment Chairmen.

Q9. How do I join?

Delta Sig allows all of its members to take part in selecting incoming men. Students interested in joing normally attend a recruitment event in order to tour the house, ask questions and meet as many members as possible. A bid, or invitation to join Delta Sig is offered by the Recruitment Chairmen on behalf of the chapter. Typically we would offer a bid in person after having met the potential member at least twice. Each situation is different and men may be visited by the recruitment chairmen at their house in order to meet potential members a second time. We do not require bids to be signed when offered and encourage men to take some time and discuss the decision with their parents and think about the obligations as a member before joining. If you receive a bid, the chapter considers you to be a well-rounded individual who can contribute to our brotherhood. We prefer active and pledging members to live in the chapter house in order to become involved in our activites and to get the most from your experience as a Delta Sig. For this reason, the chapter will pay to break your residence hall contract.
